High-Percentage Chance:

A shot sequence resulting in a shot on goal that has a 20% or greater chance of actually resulting in a goal based on historical scoring percentages for the particular shot type derived from the analysis of more than 250,000 shot sequences resulting in a shot on goal during the 2015-2016,2016-2017,2017-2018,2018-2019 and current NHL season to date.

Mid-Percentage Chance:

A shot sequence resulting in a shot on goal that has a 9.00% to 19.99% chance of actually resulting in a goal based on historical scoring percentages for the particular shot type derived from the analysis of more than 250,000 shot sequences resulting in a shot on goal during the 2015-2016,2016-2017,2017,2018,2018-2019 and current NHL season to date.

Low-Percentage Chance:

A shot sequence resulting in a shot on goal that has an 8.99% or less chance of actually resulting in a goal based on historical scoring percentages for the particular shot type derived from the analysis of more than 250,000 shot sequences resulting in a shot on goal during the 2015-2016,2016-2017,2017-2018,2018-2019 and current NHL season to date.

Scoring Chances and Shooting Percentages FOR:

CSA ranks each team based on the number of High and Mid Percentage scoring chances (separately and combined) generated by the team on average per game, as well as the percentage of these shots that actually results in a goal—what CSA refers to as the shooting percentage.

Scoring Chances and Shooting Percentages AGAINST:

CSA ranks each team based on the number of High and Mid Percentage scoring chances (separately and combined) allowed by the team on average per game (“against” shots—the shots an opponent made on a given team’s goal)—as well as the percentage of these shots that actually results in a goal in an average game, as well as the percentage of these shots that actually resulted in a goal—what CSA refers to as the shooting percentage.

Team Scoring Chances Plus/Minus and Team Plus/Minus Shooting Percentages:

CSA ranks each team based on the net difference between offense and defense for each performance metric, including Scoring Chances and Shooting Percentages.
